It's funny how one of the coldest months of the year is also the one dedicated to love.  On the other hand, the colder it gets, the more people snuggle, so maybe that's not such a stretch. February means Valentine's Day, and southern WV has plenty of opportunities for everyone to celebrate love and enjoy the beauty of this place.

In fact, February in southern WV offers a range of really interesting activities. If you're a theater buff or a train guru, or even want to just take advantage of winter's greatest asset, the cold, then February in southern WV is the place to be.

State Parks here in Southern WV have some super accommodations and offer plenty of activities throughout the year. With Valentine's Day approaching, Pipestem and Twin Falls State Parks are ready to help you have a memorable time with the one you love.

If dinner served with a side of intrigue is your cup of tea, then your February will start off with a BANG. Here's a look at a couple of Murder Mystery offerings in southern West Virginia.

• Glade Springs Murder Mystery - February 3-4. Two different shows, one each night and a discount if you want to do both. One is set in the 1960's and one in the 1920's and attendees are encouraged to dress to the period. Call 304-763-0876.

Although trains were a primary mode of transportation for many years in this country, times, they are a'changin'. These days you probably don't consider the train when planning a trip.

If you fall into that category, then you may want to consider taking the New River Train trip to the Greenbrier Resort on a Greenbrier Day Excursion. There are 4 trips this year, and the next one is on Sunday, February 12. The trip includes:

WV winters are usually snow-filled, and Winterplace Ski Resort is a great way to take advantage of the snowy outdoor fun. Whether or not you're a skier, getting your kids involved in the sport is incredibly easy at Winterplace.

The Skiwee Program is structured learning that provides a great way for kids to learn to ski or board. They get small group attention from instructors that specialize in teaching kids proper skiing and boarding techniques.
